Bankruptcy of Our Nation by Jerry Robinson

Bankruptcy of Our Nation by Jerry Robinson

Even though this book was published in 2009, I believe it is still very “timely”. I found most of it to be very enlightening. Quite a bit of the information this book contained was new to me, but there was enough in it that I knew to be true beforehand, that made me believe it (as well as the well-documented footnotes).

The God Chasers by Tommy Tenney

The God Chasers by Tommy Tenney

I recently pulled this book off my bookshelf and re-read it. It was just as good, just as timely, just as needed, this time around as the first time.

Are you satisfied with past truth or must you have present truth? Are you truly hungry for the presence of God—not just knowing about Him, but truly knowing Him? If so, you may be well on your way to becoming a God chaser. If not, read this book for a passionate invitation to become one.

The Sacred Meal by Nora Gallagher

The Sacred Meal by Nora Gallagher

Annoying. This book was one of the most annoying books to read that I’ve ever read. I had great trouble even finishing it.

I thought it was going to be about the practice of taking communion. Instead it was bits and pieces of the author’s life strung together with the occasional story having something to do with her experience with communion.

Chasing Francis by Ian Morgan Cron

Cheryl Cope Posted on March 4, 2011 by Cheryl CopeMarch 6, 2021

Chasing Francis by Ian Morgan Cron

Chasing Francis is a different sort of book about St. Francis of Assisi. Instead of the usual biography this was a fictional account of a modern day pastor on a journey “chasing” after Francis going to the literal places that Francis went to all over Italy.

I was surprised to see several negative reviews of this book by other reviewers, but I must admit that I knew almost nothing about Francis of Assisi beforehand so I cannot attest to its historical accuracy. Neither am I an avid reader of fiction, so may not have as many fiction works in my own reading history to compare this one too.

Sun Stand Still by Steven Furtick

Cheryl Cope Posted on February 26, 2011 by Cheryl CopeMarch 6, 2021

Sun Stand Still by Steven Furtick

Sun Stand Still is all about faith—audacious faith—a faith that “makes regular people behave with boldness or daring, especially with confident disregard for personal comfort [or] conventional thought.”

Steven Furtick starts out by welcoming us to audacious faith and making a bold promise that by the time we finish reading his book, we will have this audacious faith pumping through our veins, too.

Chasing Elephants by Brent Crowe

Cheryl Cope Posted on January 6, 2011 by Cheryl CopeMarch 6, 2021

The title of the book was just as intriguing as the subtitle and topic of it —wrestling with the gray areas of life. It addressed, from a biblical point of view, those areas of life that are not directly addressed by scripture, such as social drinking, social media, and others. It even tackled the controversial subject of homosexuality, not just whether it was right or wrong, but also what our response should be to those involved in it.

The Shadowed Mind by Julie Cave

The Shadowed Mind by Julie Cave

Although, The Shadowed Mind is the second in The Dinah Harris Mystery triology series, it was more than adequate as a stand-alone story by itself. If I was missing anything important by not reading the first in the series before reading this one, I couldn’t tell.

All of the plots and subplots revolved around the topics of eugenics, euthanasia, evolution vs. creation and ultimately the value of human life. What could have been a boring litany of detailed lectures was excellently crafted into an extremely interesting mystery. Even some of the subplots had their own mystery attached to them.

Radical by David Platt

Cheryl Cope Posted on December 16, 2010 by Cheryl CopeMarch 6, 2021

“Radical” is a book about challenging the modern American Christian’s mindsets to what real Christianity is. The author grabs several of the American church’s commonplace ideas by the horns and proceeds to wrestle them to the ground by comparing them with Scripture, and using rational arguments, challenging questions, and compelling real life stories.
