Have you forgotten that you’ve been purged from your old sins?
And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. 2 Pet. 1:5-9 KJV
So it is possible to forget that you’ve been purged from your sins.
We’ve been purged.
Another scripture to confirm that you’ve been purged.
…when he [God’s Son v.1-2] had by himself purged our sins… Heb. 1:3 KJV
To purge means to clear from guilt, to cleanse, to purify by carrying off what is impure.
To purge means to cleanse…
…the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. 1 Jn.1:7 KJV
All of your sins have been purged and cleansed.
Now you’ve been reminded. Believe it. It’s true. There is no sin that you’ve done or will do that has not been purged, cleansed, washed away, taken away.
Symptom of forgetting.
The symptom of forgetting is that you are lacking in godly character. See 2 Pet.1:5-9 quoted above. If you are lacking in faith, virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience etc. (according to these scriptures) it is because you have forgotten that your sins have been purged away.
How to remember.
I hope you can see that there is a great benefit to remembering that your sins have been purged. How will you remember?
Is there some symbol or some thing that you can set up in your environment to help you to remember? This is similar to setting up a monument or statue in remembrance of some person or some event. What is meaningful to you?
If when you see a cross, that reminds you that Jesus took your sins away, where could you hang a cross or picture of a cross? What is personal to you that will remind you of this? Use whatever that is and make a memorial, statue or picture to remind yourself of this important truth and place it some place where you will see it often.
Other ideas.
Could you remember that you’ve been cleansed every time you wash your hands or take a shower? Could you remember about the blood cleansing you every time you saw the color red? Is there a picture of the likeness of Jesus that you could post somewhere that could remind you?
