Getting Closer to God Series Part 1 — 19 Comments

  1. I get closer to God when I do housework or gardening, believe it or not. There is something about my thought process that change when I’m doing that. I talk to God and listen and see him in my role and in nature. Perhaps also because I’m not reading, writing or typing then.

    • Yes, I can believe it because those activities don’t require your mind to be actively engaged so then your mind is free to focus on God. Brother Lawrence of Practice His Presence learned how to do that while washing dishes.

  2. Being a “Christian” does mean that you have Holy Spirit on the inside. But John gives believers a warning in Revelation: I know your [record of] works and what you are doing; you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were cold or hot! So, because you are lukewarm and neither cold or hot, I will spew you out of My mouth!” (Rev. 3:15-16 AMP). You are absolutely correct in saying, SEEKING is the beginning! Meditating on god’s Word is the process.

  3. Hey Cheryl: I will be “resting in Christ” and be mindful of Christ in me before responding to my children, Allowing God’s peace to reign in me brings that “feeling” of closeness. Also going to a wonderful worship night.

  4. We (Christians) all need to put God first, but in the busyness of life, this can easily be forgotten. Looking forward to reading more of your insights as to how we can deliberately draw closer to him.

  5. To me this has been very difficult. I understand that when trouble comes then l will see if my faith in God will sustain. I am passing through rough times now and l feel scared, anxious, and nervous for my future. But if i dont relay in Him in whom should l?

  6. Getting closer to God means to mean spending more time with HIm – listening to His still small voice – not just reading His Word, meditating on it, and praying – but then being still and listening.

  7. It’s all of the above! I’ve never been satisfied, but always want more of God. For me at this time in my life, however, I think there are two specific things that God has been asking me to do: first, to trust Him every moment of the day and second, to let Him control my schedule. Related issues, but they are also partly unrelated ones.
